First Snowfall

Bella

This morning I woke up and ran to my window.  The ground outside was all covered in white.  I think it is snow.  Mommy told me all about snow and how much fun it will be to play in it.  I wonder what we will do today?

My door creaked and mommy came into the room.  “Bella, look at the snow,” she said.  “We can play in it after breakfast!”  Mommy is so excited and I am not sure why.  She helps me into my robe and slippers and we head downstairs to make some breakfast.

Once breakfast is finished, mommy helps me get dressed and then bundles me up in my snow cloths.  I don’t really like my snow suit…  It is so bulky but mommy said I need to wear it to keep warm.  Outside the air is cold and the snow crunches underneath my boots.  I like the sound!  Mommy says “Let’s make snow angels!”  She lays on her back and moves her arms and legs.  I watch not sure what to do but then decide to join.  It is so much fun.  Mommy and I then walk around the yard hand and hand and I hear crunch, crunch under my boots.

In the midst of our walk daddy comes into the backyard with something in his hands.  Mommy and daddy tell me it is a sled.  They put me on the sled and daddy pulls me around the backyard.  I really like it and keep asking for more sled rides!  Snow is so much fun!

Soon it is time to go in for lunch and then my nap.  I fight mommy because I want to go out and be pulled on the sled again.  I keep rubbing my eyes though and fall asleep.  When I wake up from my nap, mommy comes in to get me.  She says “I have another special snow treat for you.”  In the kitchen there are two warm mugs on the table.  I take a sip and it is so yummy!  Mommy says “It is hot chocolate.  A special treat for a special day.”  I smile and reply, “I really love snow days, Mommy!”

Bella’s Mom

This morning I woke up feeling so excited!  I gazed over at the window and saw that it did snow.  I slip out of bed so that I don’t wake Bob and pull on my robe.  This is the first year that Bella can really play in the snow and can’t wait to see her reaction!  I have so many ideas for today and hope she will enjoy the snow as much as Bob and I do.

I open Bella’s door hearing the familiar creak and find her already at the window gazing out at the backyard.  “Bella, look at the snow,” I say.  Trying to contain my excitement, I add, “We can play in it after breakfast!”  Bella gives me a quizzical look.  I help her into her robe and slippers and we head downstairs for breakfast.

Once breakfast is finished, I dress Bella for the day and then proceed to bundle her up in her snow clothes.  It is very clear that she doesn’t like her snow suit…  I ensure her that it will keep her warm.  Outside the air is cold and the white snow crunches underneath our boots.  Bella’s face lights up at the sound and she moves her feet to hear the sound again and again!  Inspired by her joy, I suggest, “Let’s make snow angels!”  I lay on my back and move my arms and legs.  Bella watches not sure what to do at first but then decides to join after a minute.  Her smile broadens and I love seeing her make these discoveries.  We then walk around the yard hand and hand so that Bella can hear crunch, crunch under her boots.

After shoveling, Bob comes in the backyard with a sled in his hands.  He has been saving this sled for Bella and is so excited to show it to her.  Bella asks what it is and we explain it is a sled.  We settle her on the sled and then Bob pulls her around the backyard.  Bella really likes it and keep asking for more sled rides!  Although I think Bob might be enjoying it more.

Soon I tell Bella that is time to go in for lunch and then it is nap time.  She fights me although I reassure her that we can play with the sled later.  I can tell she is tired because she keeps rubbing my eyes.  Sure enough, she falls asleep quickly.  While Bella is sleeping I fix up a special treat- hot chocolate!  I am still working on my recipe but it is getting better each time I try it.  A little while later, I hear Bella stirring and go in to get her.  “I have another special snow treat for you,” I tell her.  When we enter the kitchen Bella’s eyes widen with curiosity at the sight of the two warm mugs on the table.  I settle her into her booster seat and she takes a sip.   “It is so yummy!” she exclaims. “It is hot chocolate.  A special treat for a special day,” I reply.  Bella smiles and says, “I really love snow days, Mommy!”  My heart is warmed with love for my daughter and this special moment between the two of us.
